We partnered with Dams Safety NSW to produce two key animations highlighting expert preventative inspections and emergency response planning—critical for maintaining dam safety throughout NSW.

Project Details
Dams are highly complex, large scale feats of engineering and sometimes things can go wrong. Dams safety NSW is an independant regulator that is responsible for ensuring dam owners manage the safety of declared dams in the state. This pair of animation sits within a bigger course focused on best practice for dam safety. The first film provides tips from experienced inspectors about preventative inspection approaches. The second film describes the purpose and importance of an emergency plan when failures do occur. We were excited to work on such an important set of animations to make sure that Dams across NSW meet the requirements.
Project Overview
Style
For this animation we were given pre-existing characters and built a world around them. The animation style was intended to be elegant, with picturesque dam settings created in a vibrant hand crafted flat style. We complemented this look with clinical iconography and government branded text, allowing the clear representation of technical instruction. The natural bright tones of the settings are contrasted with red iconography and highlights indicating issues.
