CAVITY BARRIERS
2025
Good building design is a lifesaver.
We teamed up with building safety specialists on an animated video that shows how cavity barriers prevent fires from rapidly spreading. Using clean visuals and simple explanations, we clarified a crucial aspect of building safety—reinforcing the importance of thoughtful design for occupant protection.

Project Outline
When a fire breaks out, every second counts. Slowing its spread is critical, allowing occupants to safely evacuate and helping firefighters gain control more effectively. But how exactly can a building’s design help manage fire risks? This animation sits within a broader course aimed at raising awareness about essential building safety measures and explains how cavity barriers significantly contribute to fire safety.
Approach
We begin by illustrating how cavities without barriers can act like chimneys, rapidly drawing flames upwards and outwards. Through clean visual representations, the animation demonstrates how cavity barriers disrupt this dangerous chimney effect, helping contain fires by limiting access to combustible materials.
Style
For this animation, we chose a sleek and informative isometric style, utilizing vibrant color contrasts and intuitive iconography. Technical concepts are simplified through engaging visuals and concise text annotations, ensuring clarity without compromising accuracy.
By visually communicating the strategic placement and importance of cavity barriers, this animation reinforces how thoughtful building design can profoundly enhance occupant safety and reduce property damage in the event of a fire.
