Building certification comes at the end of a very long and costly process, and often involves the challenge of calling out issues which most people don’t want to hear. The pressures to have the certifier to say its “all ok”can sometimes lead to corruption. To address this serious topic with a touch of humor, we created a series of six animations featuring Tony, a certifier who encounters various ethical dilemmas.

The Department of Customer Services, responsible for maintaining industry integrity, commissioned us to produce these engaging educational videos as part of a broader course on certifier corruption standards. In the animations, Tony revises reporting policies, establishes an anonymous reporting channel, arranges mandatory training on corruption recognition and reporting, ensures whistleblower protections, appoints an independent investigator, and communicates with stakeholders to uphold transparency and build trust.

 
 

For this animation, we embraced a Monty Python-inspired style, creating humorous caricatures of the building industry. An ethical judge floating in the clouds oversees a cast that includes a dodgy developer with a perpetual cigar, a Viking builder wielding Thor’s demolition hammer, quirky clients in safari outfits, and an uptight auditor. The story centers around a house with glaring flaws, featuring a rooftop menagerie and a rocket launching pad that were definitely not in the original plans.
