Have you ever wondered how intelligent animals really are? We have and so has Ivan Vinogradov, a science communicator and Animal Behavioural Biologist. This question led Ivan to design IQ tests for animals. We were captivated by the image of a stressed out gorilla filling out a multiple choice questionnaire and this became the centrepiece of the animation.

There were late nights debating what animals would star in the following scenes. We finally pawsed as we reached purrfect agreement on three animals and set to work bringing them to life. Ivan brings a quirky sense of humour to his narration and science communication. We wanted to reflect this vibe by making sure our animal characters had an attitude. We hope you like them as much as we do!

We designed the characters in a warm, hand-drawn style inspired by handcrafted cartoons and designed to connect with our primary school audience. The pastel colours, grainy textures and an overall print-like quality captured the concept of animal IQ tests in the style of a children's illustrated picture book. Basically we tried our best to disguise every child’s nightmare of exams with cute, furry animals rendered in crayon.
